The Umana Middle School Academy in East Boston is closing for a week, as a number of students and faculty members have called in sick or been sent home with flu symptoms,
according to Boston.com. The Umana joins Boston Latin and several private schools in the area that have seen an increase in the number of absent students. The Umana and the Harborside Community Center will be closed until May 28.

Hot spring weather could contribute to absence and I am feeling a lot of flu-like symptoms due to the pollen. I think there is a lot of over-reaction going on here...
The school tries to act like the safety of the children are their concern. I do not believe all this is true. I know of a teacher that hit a student by slamming a desk into his chest and other children could say the same thing, yet when reported to the school nothing was done to this day. That student is told they are handling it and the same teacher has threatened that student. This all happened November 2008 and nothing is done and that dangerous teacher is still there. No one really cares about these children at the schools.
