Under overcast skies and through high seas, Allied forces crossed the English Channel and landed on the Normandy coast 65 years ago today to free Western Europe from German occupation. It may have been the single most important day of the 20th Century.President Obama visited the site of the invasion today and paid tribute to the American military personnel who, along with soldiers from Britain and Canada, established beachheads on D-Day and moved across France toward Berlin.
