Richard Halloran, a Boston Police sergeant who was shot and killed in the line of duty at the corner of Bremen Street and Neptune Road 34 years ago today, was honored this morning. With the mayor and others on hand and bagpipes playing, a bronze and granite memorial was unveiled.

Bob Anthony should be commended for his unending efforts to see Sergeant Halloran honored in our community.
Jimbo, I'm glad you pick and choose what you want to. I thought you were fair?
Of course I pick and choose. It's my sandbox.
did you take that picture Jim or do I have to waite for the Times to come out to see some real Journalistic coverage of the event. Wow! I can't believe you pick on them all the time and then just print links and photos from the Globe.
Keep up the good work Woodward, your pulitzer is on the way!
Being that I have a job during the day and that it's not as a professional journalist, I didn't take that photo. It clearly says it's from Boston.com.
Not sure what your point is, but the point of this blog is for me to offer my thoughts on current events, my neighborhood and anything else I feel like writing about.
You're always so quick to point out that "we deserve better" from the Times, accuse them of plagarism and a host of other things and all you do is post links and, in my humble opinion, make the photos look as though you took them by hidding who really took it in small print.
There doesn't seem to be an original thought on this blog but only stuff you regurgitate from the Globe and liberal talk radio.
You know Jim Sir Thomas More commented that he hated to read other works while writing because he felt it would influence his own works. Maybe you should give that a try?
"accuse them of plagarism"
Actually, I pointed out a clear case of plagiarism.
"all you do is post links"
Clearly not true, but adding links is a way to give readers access to more information.
"There doesn't seem to be an original thought on this blog"
You should follow your conclusion and don't waste your time reading it.
Well Jimbo, I think that I just want your readers to know you sre a hippocrat. You always attack the Times but you always use links for your stories. The truth is that you try to be a journalist but you are too lazy my friend. I think your a good guy but you seem to think really shallow. Anyway, you mention its your sandbox so I guess I will take my ball and go home!
"You always attack the Times but you always use links for your stories."
That's like saying, "You like pizza and today is Sunday." How are they related?
My point is that you speak with a split tongue. If you are going to play journalist than be obe but, if you yourself have to use everyone's other info than you shouldn't point anything about the times.
You say its your sandbox and that so childish, you pick and choose with no validity to it.
I know I've gone over this before, but let me try again:
1. I am not a professional journalist. I was for a while, and enjoyed it (and won a few awards, if I might toss in a plug), but I have another job now.
2. This is a blog where I offer my opinion on whatever I feel like. When I use material from elsewhere, I indicate that I am doing so. The links are a courtesy to the reader to point them to more information.
3. You brought up the Times, so here goes: Plagiarism is using material from elsewhere WITHOUT indicating that one is doing so. I saw it in the Times and pointed it out a few weeks ago. It is NOT the only time I've seen it in the Times, but contrary to the view of at least one commenter, I am not "out to get" them, so I don't blog about any little thing that I view as journalistically questionable in that paper.
4. The sandbox comment came in response to the master of the obvious comment that I pick and choose what I write about. See #2.
Hey Jimbo, good for you! You always point out both sides and you are very fair. If people don't like it they can go to other blogs
Jim - I'm not sure why you waste your time engaging these people/ this person. You give them a platform to bully you by allowing their comments through. Given how widespread the Hubster seems to be reaching these days, it also makes our community look bad. It is your sandbox, but you don't have to let people use it is as a litterbox.
It's such a shame that a story about a true hero has generated comments that have nothing to do with his sacrifice to our city. Stay on topic, please.
Nstarluna brings out a good point. There are a few people who write in just to argue for the sake of arguing. It is your blog, and the subject matter varies, thats your choice.
Keep up the good work.
Jimbo - do you know if Officer Halloran was related the Halloran's that went to the Salesian's in the '80s.
To N. Starluna: why don't you worry about your sandbox which is the classroom. I'm concerned what you are teaching our kids. I hope you spend as much time studying your materials as you do on this blog.
