*The Globe has a piece today saying that the casino proposal was always a tough sell in East Boston.
*The sagging economy hasn't slowed growth along Route 1 in Saugus. A Globe article lists new development projects and businesses that'll soon be popping up on the venerable stretch of highway, including Trader Joe's, which would be cool.
*Our friends at EastBoston.com have a story on East Boston resident Anthony Fiorino, recently honored for his 50 years of service to the city's Emergency Medical Services department.

In my view, this is just another case in point where East Boston is overlooked. This lose is not good for East Boston and developers continue to flock to other parts to develop the land.
Local leaders need to wake up and realize the decay that East Boston is in and do something about it QUICK. Local leaders should not just pass through the squares on their way to the tunnel each morning, but drive around the neighborhoods and look at the disgust that exists: streets and sidewalks that are dirty and disgusting, homes that are deplorable, businesses that are closing, businesses that throw up anything on the buildings with the hopes of creating a sign...then again it seems as if businesses do what they want anyways!
East Boston is disgusting right now and once again overlooked my all leaders and elected officials. Maybe a casino wasn't "right", but the benefits would have been great. No developers are touching any other parts of East Boston. I hate to say it but sometimes, something is better than nothing and right not East Boston is looking like nothing!
To Anon; if you don't like East Boston then here is a solution"MOVE"!
You'd rather sell out to casino's then to look at other areas of revenue enhancement?
East Boston will once again be beautiful but won't be helped by people like you who want to sell it out.
Something is better than nothing? What the hell would Eastie be getting for having a full scale casino? Oh yes, we would get more thrash, more crime, more traffic, ect.... Your right, never mind...we will be making out great, how stupid of us!
