Casino talk

Stories about casino gambling in Massachusetts have surged again since Gov. Deval Patrick filed legislation Thursday to open the state to such establishments. Here is a sampling:

*A story in today's Globe details how Mayor Menino slowly came to support the idea of a casino at Suffolk Downs.

*An Associated Press story points out that college students can be susceptible to gambling problems.

*A Boston Magazine piece notes Donald Trump's interest in being part of gaming in the Bay State.

*Liberal Congressman Barney Frank, whose district includes Middleborough, tells the Herald that casinos in Massachusetts are a good idea.

*The Patriot Ledger reports that Connecticut's casinos aren't afraid of the coming competition from its neighbor to the north.

Connecticut should be afraid when they realize how much of their earnings will suddenly disappear. Check it out for yourselves, it's already starting to happen. Pennsylvania and New York are siphoning off revenue. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun are feeling the effects of strong advertising and better draws.
