Emerson nine calls Eastie home

Emerson College's baseball team will be playing its home games at East Boston Stadium, according to the school's newspaper. The Lions have apparently bounced around in recent years, using several fields in Boston and environs, but they are thrilled at the prospect of playing on a newly-renovated turf field that has drainage and lights. In addition, it's a quick drive or subway ride from Emerson, which is located in downtown Boston.

The story does mention that, during the first game that the squad played at the field, some kids caused a bit of a problem by playing soccer in the outfield. At one point, one of the kids threw the soccer ball at an outfielder. Welcome to Eastie!

Hehe.

Brats. Nice to see some people come into our neighborhood...of course, all they have to do is go to the Airport T stop and to the field. Hope they venture into Eastie a bit more and get to know it.

There does seem to be a lack of places for kids and adults to place a pick up game of soccer. I've seen some folks play at the pocket park down the street from my house. But other than that, I can't think of any place that doesn't get reserved (and therefore off limits) where the kids can just play.

Me has a really good point. But those folks won't venture out on their own. They are going to need a reason to do so and a way to find their way around.

Maybe the Chamber or Main Streets can coordinate some marketing during the games. Perhaps hand out coupons and maps to encourage people to come to eat at our restaurants. I recall seeing some maps of Eastie with locations of the businesses on it. It seems like a good opportunity to market the neighborhood.

Great point, starluna! Love it. East Boston Main Streets should definitely get out there.
