There will be a Stop the Pike Hike rally Wednesday at Ecco Restaurant on Porter Street in East Boston from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Following the rally there will be a hearing hosted by City Councilor Sal LaMattina on the matter starting at 6 p.m. at East Boston High School.

why is Sal of all people hosting a meeting regarding this? to change the toll prices for EB residents would require a vote by the legislature, that bill was passed back when Gus Serra was rep--it is a state issue--Sal is once again grandstanding trying to get mileage out of an issue he has no authority over---its getting old Sal.

Who is Sal Lamattina?

Old is being to kind, hes not getting old,he was old comming in.

As in the same old, same old same old. A Mayor Menino cronie, and coat tailer.

You can get more help from the at large councilors than him,on any given day.

Vote Mike Flagherty for Mayor in 2009

Councilor Lamattina is a peoples politician and was only trying to answer the cry of his people. He did the right thing. Where was the state if this is their issue?

LaMattina is not the people's politician! He is certainly a nice guy and his heart is probably in the right place, but he is the mayor's man, NOT the people's. That couldn't have been more clear during the election and since then he has certainly been behind city hall 100% (or close to 100%). I talked to him once with a complaint and you couldn't find a better apologist for the status quo. He basically told me things are a lot better than I think they are.

And of course he should have been at a rally on the toll hike--he is our rep and should do anything he can to convince state decision makers not to exploit us...and in this case he can since this is the mayor's position as well. If only he would do the same when the mayor's position is not in the best interest of Eastie...

Sorry to post anon so he can't rebut, but I don't want to be on the wrong side of "the law" :)

Sal ?A peoples person.

Youve got to be kidding,or work inside City Hall.

The average every day person knows hes a Mayors puppet.

Sal
Has no0t opposed any thing detremental to East Boston since being in office, except Burger King.

He LOVES alcohol, and his mission appears to be one that everyone should sell alcohol.

Gee I wonder if he lived in Maverick,or Central how he would feel.

Wait thats a great idea !
He should have to camp out for just one night, and see how the real people live.

Good Luck Sal,but next time around you will be giving a concession speach.

Any suggestions on who might run for City Council?

Sal is not a bad guy....at least he showed up! He may not have a vote on the issue, but he stands up for his constituents!!!! I cannot say the same for Petrucelli or Basile!!!

I think councilor Ross should throw his hat in the next mayors race for Boston, I sometimes watch what's going on at city hall meetings on local cable live channel 51 I think Ross has what it takes to be mayor of Boston, the rest of the councilor are insiders bozo's if you will

Well Maybe if our state elected officials actually did something then Councilor LaMattina and the mayor wouldn't have to roll up their sleeves again.

Wally Bowe would get my vote! Somrone from the neighborhood, understands and listens, as well as gets things organized and completed.

Wally is a great person for East Boston, except I believe he lives in Saugus.

I don't see any failure by Mayor or "his people" in this issue. Actually I am convinced that if it wasn't for him we would have lost the discount toll that as East Boston residents enjoy. Trying to use the issue for political capital is wrong and will not solve it. We should stand together and wellcome everyone who join us. Mayor and La Mattina have been very vocal against the increase.

I heard from a few people that Bill Deveau may run. His ties to organized labor equal money and organization. He is active in the community and well liked. He would be Sal's worst nightmare.

For those of us who don't know Bill Deveau could we have a little more information about him. Is he related to Ed Deveau?

I'll tell you guys one thing! This guy Bill Deveau is one incredible guy. I work for the teamsters union and have already received an overwhelming amount of support from our guys. We are willing and able at a moments notice to provide Bill with financial and man power support he needs. I for one would welcome change in this great neighborhood of ours. We are fed up with the same ole, same ole Sal antics. We need someone who can put a sentence together when he speaks at a council meeting. This thing with the tolls is nothing but Grandstanding by Sal. He's milking it for all it's worth! Are you really going to fight for us Sal? C'mon we know you better. By the way, nice bumper stickers Sal. You'll need a heck of alot more than those to defeat a true champion like Bill Deveau. Stay tuned!

you all sound like you have been celebrating the Question 2 victory a little early.

no I think you would have to be "high" to re-elect Sal. He has voted to increase the city budget over 400 million since 2006,has voted to make Boston a "sanctuary city" for illegals, tried to keep parking meters on till 2am,and spent an entire year fighting with ice cream truck drivers over music.I am in local 718,Int. Assoc of Firefighters and an EB resident.

I don't plan to vote for Sal, I'm fine with the budget depending on what it goes to. I am also fine with being a sanctuary city. I'm certainly against meters going until 2 am. BUT I really might vote for him if he could do something about that horrible ice cream truck music. Not only is it annoying, it always seemed to drive by my house just as I was putting my baby to bed.

Firefighter? Now I know you have been celebrating too early...Boston? Did they approve the drug testing yet?

I'm 57,live in East Boston and always vote for Sal because he reminds me of that detective with the glasses on the old Barney Miller show. Can anyone remember that name of the detective?

Anonymous said...

barney miller
one of my favorite shows.
steve landsberger?? detective dietrich .

Anonymous said...

so if Sal is Det Dietrich, does that make Jeff Drago Officer Levitt??

Can anyone explain to me why Sal has all these new bumper stickers all around town. It's obvious to me that he is afraid of something. Sal maybe you got wind that someone like Bill Deveaux is getting ready to make a run at you. I've also heard that Joe D'Amelio might toss in his hat.

Sal has been a terrible city councilor. He is "the ice cream man" to the Boston media. In actuality his tenure has been an embarrassment.
On the wrong side of critical issues in a bad economy, he is worried. But if he loses,Menino will keep him around for 4, or 5 more years and he will retire with a pension around 85 grand per year.

East boston politics has always been dominated by italians would it be a shock if a non italian such as a new yuppie from 156 porter or a highly educated yuppie from webster street win the next seat for boston city council race, oppose to someone who lives in the madonna hill a beverly hills district of east boston an area where past elected officials resided, and a high percent of state and city hacks reside.

I personally believe that we have a great deal of talented people all over this city, state, and country who would be terific elected officials.
I encourage anyone to run who is sincere.
The best way to change things is to get involved.Best of Luck!!
