New liaison to Eastie chosen

Ernani DeAraujo is the new liaison to East Boston for Mayor Menino. A native of the neighborhood, DeAraujo, 28, attended Boston Latin and Harvard, and he has a law degree from Washington and Lee University. He interned at the White House for Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and most recently he worked for the Boston law firm Foley Hoag.

DeAraujo has been meeting people who are active on neighborhood issues, and he seems enthusiastic about his new job. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him rise up the political ladder in the coming years.

Here is interesting insight into Mr. DeAraujo's political agenda.

Mr. DeAraujo seems to have more in common with right wing extremists than he does with Mayor Menino.

I wouldn't characterize a few letters to the editor of one's college newspaper seven or eight years ago as a "political agenda."

DeAraujo was a member of the College Republicans at Harvard, and he was an investment banker for a while, but after speaking with him, my take is that his views have become more progressive.

I don't think the mayor would have hired a right-wing ideologue, but also, let's keep in mind that this isn't a a high-level policy position.

Wow, this guy seems much better qualified than our local City Councilor, Representative, and State Senator. Let’s hope he sticks around long enough to make some meaningful changes before moving on to bigger things…
