Basile takes office today

Carlo Basile, the newly elected state rep. from East Boston, is scheduled to be sworn in today at noon at the State House. Basile topped a field of four candidates in the Democratic primary and ran unopposed in the general election.

Basile was selected by 1022 of the 1079 people who turned out for the Oct. 23 election, while 51 voters wrote in candidates and six left blank ballots, according to the city's web site. He takes the seat that was occupied by Anthony Petruccelli, who won election to the state senate after Robert Travaglini resigned from that office in the spring.

I was fortunate to be in attendance for Carlo's swearing in ceremony on Thursday. It was a truly moving experience to be part of the group of supporters that filled the gallery to standing room only capacity. Everyone beamed as they witnessed the fruit of Carlo's - and their tireless efforts.

While delivering his first address to the house of representatives - like only Carlo can - he moved the entire house to their feet on at least 1/2 dozen occasions. In one of these instances the crowd even erupted into the signature chant of "Carlo, Carlo, Carlo!". As he turned his address to thank his most ardent supporters: Mom Teresa, Wife Crystal and Son Carlo - he moved many of us to tears.

On more than one occasion the gaze of the Governor, Mayor, Senator, City Councillor and the House moved to the gallery above to marvel at the emotion flowing from the organization that Carlo not only built, but inspired.

Thursday November 1, 2007 was a momentous day. We've been fortunate to have representation from East Boston at the State House for so long, at so many levels that we take it for granted. The difference is that 11/1/2007 - is the day that Carlo Basile brought East Boston to the State House.

The day Carlo Basile brought East Boston to the State House????

If that could be explained it would be greatly appreciated. East Boston has been a presence in the State House for a long time. Buttiglieri, Serra, Petro! What are you talking about? The presence that Carlo brings isn't necessarily a positive one. The entire House of Reps is well aware of Carlo Basile's run as a democrat where he is an admitted Republican! I guess we'll see.......

Glad to explain that statement. (Although if you re-read my original post, you will see that I did acknowledge East Boston's long standing presence at the State House.) Carlo Basile represents every man, woman and child in East Boston, not just the politically connected. That fact was not only evident - but palpable in the gallery on 11/1/07.

As for Carlo being an admitted Republican - I think that you need to double check your info.

TO

CONSTANT COMPALINING ABOUT CARLO BEING A REPUBLICAN !

Get over it already, the votes have been cast, and the results speak for our Community !

Labels mean nothing ,its results that count, and Carlo will bring results.

To the Republican ranter,I am a registered Independant / Unenrolled. So does that make me a Non Factor/ NO !

You know why there is good ,and bad on both sides ,and the Independants are in control ,not only in places like Eastie ,but in the next election for President.

Anyone who writes us off will become the "Next Biggest Looooooser"

Good Luck Carlo !

Unfortunately, Petro's not on board with East Boston.
