An article in today's Globe on the future of the Boston Public Library and its branches had this line: "Library officials ... are looking into consolidating two small East Boston libraries into one larger building."
My understanding is that a renovation is planned of the Meridian Street branch, the older and bigger of the two, but the article seems to imply that both branches would relocate to a new building. However, maybe the expansion of the building is what is referred to here.

WATCH OUT FOLKS THIS SMELLS LIKE A HORSE BARNW.
Esp. since Vinny Lombardo wants to tear down the entire block, including the 100 year old Seville Theatre to build 66 condos.
THE MEETING FOR THE PRESENTATION IS THURSDAY NIGHT NOVEMBER 6TH,2007 AT 6:15 AT THE UMANA BARNES / HARBORSIDE COMMUNITY CENTER 312 BORDER STREET EAST BOSTON.
HE IS THE MAYORS BEST FRIEND,AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT DESTROYING EASTIES HERITAGE.
HE IS ALSO THE GUY WHO IS PUNISHING US BY NOT BUILDING ON THAT DISGUSTING EYESORE AS YOU GO IN THE TUNNEL.
THE LOT WITH THE STEEL FRAME ON IT,IT USED TO BE MAMMA CATINAS.
HE REFUSES TO BUILD EVEN THOUGH HE HAS PERMITS IN HAND FOR 6 CONDOS,AND A 2400 SQ FT STORE.
ALL BECAUSE THE CITY REFUSED HIM A BILLBORD 3 TIMES.
DIRECT QUOTE TO ME" ITS GOING TO SIT THERE ,AND ROT AS IS UNTIL I GET MY BILLBOARD.
HE DOES NOT CARE,HE LIVES IN NEW HAMPSHIRE,AND CANT SEE ANOTHER HOUSE FOR MILES.
ATTEND THAT MEETING BECAUSE I THINK HE WANTS TO KILL OUR LIBRARY.
SORRY FOR THE CAPS MY COMPUTER IS STUCK.
I'm not sure what Lombardo's plans for the shopping center has to do with the library. The library building is a historic site and owned by the city. I imagine if there was to be a consolidation, it would most likely happen because the space and the infrastructure is already in place.
I did speak with someone who attended the library meeting a few of weeks ago who told me that all that is being done right now is a study of the issue. I got the impression that nothing is going to happen any time soon. People who are interested in this should apply to become a member of the Friends of the Library.
Earth To Starluna
The Lombardos project is not in the shopping mall.
Its the entire block leading up to the Library.
Also its now up to 80 condos as was advertided on Page 8 buried inbetween tons of pictures,so no one could see it.
Luckily the right people did, protested, and the meeting is rescheduled to 11-20-07 6 p.m. at
The Umana Barnes / Harorside Community Center.
The only person in his way is A-1 Printing who owns, and lives in his building, and will never sell to Lombardo because of the tourture they have done to him with lawyers.
So once again you are un informed, and need to attend this up comming meeting.
Save Meridian Streets heritage. .S. Noticed you had nothing to say about the eyesore Lombardo has near the Tunnel, that he has had permits to build for 4 years.
DUH !
The Lombardo family got tons of good PR for feeding the elderly at his former function hall; but they are truly wolves in sheep's clothing. They once proposed a gaming arcade and pool hall in the ground level of the Border Street side of the former Seville Theater. The eyesore next to the tunnel says it all about what the family thinks is their fifedom in EB. I guess if we don't like billboards (like we need another one), then EB be damned. When Walgreens came to town, the L-family tore down three prefectly serviceable Victorian houses to enhance the bottom line. Where was NOAH with this -- like we don't need to save housing units?? The last renovation of Liberty Plaza, another L-family investment, saw the worst possible materials used -- catch the styromfoam columns falling apart now! They promised major improvements to the waterfront area they own when yet another development for Shaws was in review. It never happened. If they can't make a buck of the backs of EB residents, they spit in our eyes. Tehy have no vision for our community. They are liars and cheats and are holding us back from real development opportunities. BEWARE this latest proposal!!
