Fr. Bernard McLaughlin, pastor at Holy Redeemer in East Boston from 1983 to 1995, passed away yesterday after a long illness.Fr. McLaughlin was quite active in the community while serving here, and under his leadership the Crossroads Family Shelter was founded. After leaving Eastie he was transfered to a parish in Canton, from where he criticized the archdiocese during the clergy abuse scandal and called for the resignation of Cardinal Law.
He had a stroke in 2006, which forced his retirement. He was 74.
