Feast photos

Boston.com has some photographs taken at this year's Italia Unita festival. Right now they are the first eight images here, but may get moved as more photos are added.

No one seems to mention how costly it is to buy a sausage or panini at this feast. I could not believe it, I thought that I was in Fenway Park. I thought this was a family festival, boy was I wrong!
Stay well Jimbo

I totally agree, and I did mention it on this blog last year. I refuse to buy anything sold by the street vendors because it's so expensive, though I did patronize Meridian 155, as they charged their regular prices, and I had espresso at the newly-opened La Hacienda, and it was good.

From what I heard vendors pay around $800 per table, which seems excessive, and it forces them to charge ridiculous prices for food. The reality is that there seemed to be fewer tables than last year, and that would seem to indicate that people can't make money there. With fewer Italian-Americans in the area and fewer willing to come back for such events, I can't see how this feast will survive long term.

Jimbo how about $1000.00 to participate and how about if you want to sell soda you have to buy it from Coca-Cola at their prices and how about you can only sell what they let you. The feast was a good idea when it started but it seems like its now just become a business for the organizers and their friends and relatives - not an event to just have a good time and let vendors sell their products. This feast was always trying to be like the North End - which it never will be. Besides, every year, less Italian vendors are left in the community. I did not see Meridian Market or Milano's there this year. Zeffarano's, Nana Coras and Cafe Italia have all closed up shop. All good things must come to an end - and I think that is what has happened to Italia Unita. Good luck - thanks for the good times!

Did anyone ever think how much money it cost to run this festival? It's not cheap the vending fee's are comparable to other festivals of it's kind.Coca-cola is a sponsor that's why you have to sell there product this happens at a lot of festivals and their prices where cheaper at the feast then at Restaurant depot or Bj's.What you have to understand when you pay higher prices for food you are supporting the festival, if you don't want to do that then don't no one forces you. When you go to Fenway your money supports corporations and over paid athletes.I agree the festival might be close to the end but I give them credit for trying to keep it going.

I disagree with you, look at the Sacred Heart Festival! They had well known performers that cost way more than Italia Unita's did this year but yet prices were so reasonable. Jimbo, that was a poor argument........lets face it Unita is NOT so United with the community any longer.
Be Good Jimbo
