Steve Schmidt, a high level McCain campaign adviser, said today that the press was unfairly attacking VP choice Sarah Palin. "The nonsense is over," he said in a written statement.
The nerve of these people. John McCain makes perhaps the most irresponsible decision ever made by a major party candidate for president, choosing Palin for purely political reasons -- in front of a banner that actually said "Country First" -- and then the campaign seeks to stymie inquiry into who the potential future commander-in-chief is.
Vilifying the press, a reliable and oft used Republican tactic, has become one of the McCain campaigns talking points as of late. Forget issues, forget that the 72-year-old Arizona senator is endangering the nation's future here to get elected, but blame the press because they are doing their job.
It's infuriating, and it's a disgrace.

It is infuriating. I'm so confused by the hypocrasy my head is spinning.
So it is OK for Palin to talk about her son going to Iraq, to prove how patriotic she is, and parade her down syndrome son to prove how pro-life she is, but NO ONE ELSE can ask questions about her abstainance only beliefs after her teen daughter becomes pregnant? What is her plan for teens who become pregnant after receiving the abstainance only education who don't have the vast resources this family has (and don't believe the BS about this being a working family just like you...I think they own a little plane). I think it is a very fair question. If she didn't want her children to be fair game she shouldn't have brought them up herself and had them stand with her in public, etc., etc. for her own political gain.
And remember when Rush Limbaugh called Chelsea Clinton the family dog and the spawn of Janet Reno and Bill? Yet now Republicans are mad that people are simply questioning some seemingly inconsistencies in Palin's policy vs her own life? I don't get it...
I could go on and on, but I won't. It is terrifying.
