Was it necessary for a large section of Bremen Street to be closed to traffic this weekend while the Sumner Tunnel was shut down and the MBTA was running buses instead of trains between Maverick and Airport stations?The result was, at times, a transportation nightmare. The center of East Boston was filled with slow-moving traffic for much of the day yesterday.
Does the right hand have any idea what the left hand is doing?

...I don't think the hands or other parts involved are talking... Friday morning I was on my way to Chelsea by Meridian bridge, and the bridge started to closed because a ship... as usual, traffic started taking Cóndor Street, but that street was closed too... the, about to take Chelsea street by the other bridge, that street was closed too, by channel fish... I stoped and mentioned the officers that the other bridge was closing as two other drivers were asking them where to go, the officers didn't know or didn't care directing the traffic...all weekend was a nightmare...and I still seeing 18wheelers driving around East Boston delivering stuff, and I remember that in one of the East Boston Traffic Study meetings not so long ago, someone mentioned that those bog trucks were not permited in East Boston...
I still wonder about the East Boston Traffic Study and if something good in going to come from that, because that was money that the city spent paying some consultants...
East Boston deserves better...
I was referring to this weekend's traffic nightmare as a "perfect storm" also. Thank God the Columbus Day Parade won't be in East Boston this year!
And not only is the traffic bad, but I was trying to get to the Sox game on Sunday and the Blue line was closed too. Then we drove to Wellington and after paying for parking found out they were busing people to Sullivan Sq so we had to wait even longer.
Two weekends ago I was an hour late to a downtown appointment because of the combined road/T shutdown. It is getting a bit out of hand. There needs to be some better coordination on this issue.
I think we should have a parade in East Boston every Columbus Day.
